Title

Design and Control of HVDC Transmission Systems with MATLAB/Simulink

Abstract

This paper proposed detailed system design as well as control design of voltage source converter (VSC) based high voltage direct current (HVDC) system. In system design; sending and receiving end AC source, design of AC components which included transformers, AC filters and converter reactors and DC components design which included DC voltage ripple removing capacitors, 3rd harmonic filters and DC smooth reactors design calculations are presented in the paper. In control design, complete description of current vector control (CVC) designed controller used to control active/reactive power and AC/DC voltage is provided. For performance evaluation, HVDC system is implemented and its control is designed on MATLAB Simulink. Finally, performance evaluation is done by applying AC perturbation through three-phase to neutral fault and voltage sag using 3-phase programmable source presented in MATLAB Simulink.
